focused on the future
Public Safety is the number one role of local government.
One of the main functions of local government is to provide public safety. Ensuring the safety of our first responders is a priority. Funding and measures to improve services should always be free from politics. This best ensures our first responders are in our community and contributing to the safety and well-being of our friends, families, and neighbors.
To keep a high level of public safety, we must be willing to work toward improving those services and incorporating best practices in community policing within the Evansville Police Department. A higher commitment to funding for training, equitable pay compared to other municipal departments in the state, and intentional recruitment of diverse EPD candidates should be championed by our city council and city administration.
Ensuring the safety of our first responders is a priority. I will work to protect our firefighters in the Evansville Fire Department by making sure the department has the funding necessary to keep the highest standards of community fire and rescue practices that help serve the residents of Evansville but also ensure the safety of our first responders.
We must also work to protect our firefighters from the long-term dangers associated with their service. To do this, we must invest in the proper systems that keep their equipment clean and free from carcinogens that lead to higher rates of cancer in the field.
As your next City Councilor in the 3rd Ward, I will work to ensure public safety is of high priority and we are working to fight the opioid epidemic in our community.
